6 Key Benefits of email marketing and why you should be growing your email list.
Email marketing has to be one of the most overlooked and under-utilized marketing channels…
And it doesn’t matter if you’re a small family-run business or a huge billion-dollar brand, you can 100% benefit from email marketing.
In this post, I’ll show you the power of email marketing and why you should be growing your email list.
So, let’s begin.
Email marketing is insurance for your social media profiles...
It’s no surprise these days when you see these hordes of social media accounts getting banned left right and center for some violation they didn’t even know about.
And the most unfortunate thing about this is the years of time and effort that go down the drain if you do get hit with the ban hammer.
But, if you own an email list, it almost works as a form of insurance for your audience.
Yes, it’s still annoying if you do eventually get banned…
But at least with an email list, you know you have something that you can contact, monetize and redirect to any new social media accounts you wish to start,
And it’s shocking the number of content creators who own huge social media followings (Talking in the 100s of thousands to millions) who don’t own a list.
Build your audience on rented land (Social media platforms) and funnel them into an asset you own (Email list).
So, here are a few reasons why you should be growing your email list –
Email marketing has a high return on investment.
There is no surprise that email marketing has an incredible return on investment.
And the more time and effort you put into building and developing your email marketing, the more profit you’ll generate for your business.
Here are a few stats:
– Email marketing has an average ROI of 4200% ($42 for every $1 spent) – Litmus
– Marketing and advertising emails influence the buying decision of 50.7% of customers – Salecycle
– Welcome emails bring 320% more revenue per email than other promo emails – snov.io
– 72% of customers prefer email as their main channel for business communication – Constant Contact
So as you can see…
If you do not have a solid email marketing system in place or even a process to create the actual email yourself…
Your email list is an asset that compounds in value.
One of the greatest things about having an email list is that it’s an asset that compounds in value.
Simply, when you have an email list of say, 100 people Vs 10,000 people, it will take exactly the same amount of effort to send an email to both of these lists.
Yet…
There will be drastically different results.
This is why it’s important to constantly be trying to grow your email list with high-quality recipients.
And as time goes on, your progress will begin to look like this:

Make your emails hyper personalised
Something you must remember with email marketing is that you can make it hyper personalised.
And you want to create your emails as if you’re talking to one person.
Now, this might sound obvious…
But you’d be surprised by the sheer amount of businesses that send out emails as if they’ve been written by some corporate drone…
People are warm to people, not businesses.
So bear this in mind when you’re creating emails.
But how do you make it as personal as possible?
Well, you can use something as simple as inserting the {Firstname} function into your emails.
Or, send emails to segments of your lists based on behavior.
Most Email sending providers (ESPs) allow you to tag subscribers for certain actions.
So, then you can send specific emails to these tagged subscribers which then makes their whole experience a lot more valuable.
Its affordable
Considering how great the return on investment can be for your email marketing efforts, the only really costs to you are with what email-sending provider you decide to go with.
There are a number of other providers that you can choose from and they all benefit different needs.
The price you pay per month (Or annually) usually depends on the number of subscribers you’ve got.
I use Convertkit and can’t recommend it highly enough.
However, if you want to see some other options –
Then you can click here to see what email-sending software is right for you.
They all are similar in the price range with only a slight variation in price.
If you look after your email list, it'll look after you.
You may have heard of the phrase –
“If you want your personal ATM, then build an email list”
And it’s true… To a certain extent.
Because there are some caveats.
In order for you to get the most out of your email list, generate the most profit and not burn your list with too many promos, you must do the following:
Mail Your List Regularly
How many times during some holiday season have you received an email from a sender that you didn’t recognize?
It happens every year around BFCM…
A brand or someone who owns a course that’s just remembered they own an email list decides to send out a half-hearted sales email to salvage some sales and to try and make up for the lack of emails they’ve been sending all year.
Truth be told, this does more harm than good. The people that you send emails to are not idiots.
So, treat them as such and mail your list regularly.
Because I can guarantee they’ll be more inclined and willing to buy from you when you do this.
Send Out Entertaining Emails
There is nothing worse than sending out boring emails.
And a surefire way to send out entertaining emails is to tell stories.
When you do this, not only will it build that know-like and trust with the reader, but it will almost always result in more sales in the long term
And if this is something you’re struggling with, then don’t worry.
Recently, I created a free resource on 7 email newsletter ideas that you can use for your own list.
Maintain Your Email list Health
This is possibly one of the most overlooked and underrated ways to improve your email marketing efforts.
And it’s cleaning your list on a regular basis.
What do I mean by this?
Here are a couple of easy ways to maintain the health on your list:
1. Remove subscribers who no longer open your emails, especially if you have quite a big list.
The chances are, there’ll be people who are no longer interested in reading your emails and won’t unsubscribe themselves.
And this can affect your deliverability. So, always be looking to remove subscribers who are no longer engaged.
2. Limit Make Money Online Phrases
One of the biggest mistakes I see people make who own an email list is triggering the spam filter without even knowing.
Some phrases to be mindful of that may trigger some filters:
– Using £ and $ signs excessively.
– Using punctuation like “!!!!!!!” or “?!?!”
– Making claims in your emails like “Act Now” and “Increase your income”.
– Writing in all caps.
So, next time you’re writing emails, this is always something to be mindful of.
3. Get readers to reply to your emails
One of the best ways to improve your sending reputation in the eyes of Gmail is to try to get readers to respond to your emails.
An easy way to do this is to ask the reader something like “If you want access to {Insert something of value to the reader} then just reply to this email.
I like to do this in my welcome sequence as you can see from the screenshot below:

Before you go...
If you’ve read this article and you feel like doing this is too much work…
